How We Extend The Life Of Your HVAC Systems

When you buy a new furnace, air conditioner, or heat pump, you want something that’s built to last. We can help you extend the useful life of your HVAC systems in a number of ways, and we’ll go over them all shortly.

Before we dive in, let’s talk about the number one way we can extend the life of your system. When you purchase any HVAC device from us, we’ll make sure it’s properly rated for your home. That means we’ll never simply sell you the biggest, most expensive device – we’ll find you the device that works best for your specific needs.

This extends the life of your system because devices that aren’t properly rated will actually experience more wear and tear, as they toggle on and off too rapidly.

Extending the life of your heat pump

Well-maintained heat pumps can consume 10% to 25% less energy than poorly maintained heat pumps. That means bi-annual maintenance is more than worth the cost. But what exactly goes into heat pump maintenance?

A number of different things. Our technicians will:

  • Inspect the system for dirt, dust, and other obstructions.
  • Check that you have enough refrigerant, and ensure there are no refrigerant leaks
  • Inspect belts for tightness and wear
  • Inspect the electric terminals, cleaning, tightening, and coating them with non-conductive coating when necessary
  • Ensure the thermostat is working correctly, repairing it if needed
  • Inspect the motor, and add lubricant if necessary
  • Replace air filters if necessary

There are steps you can take to extend the life of your heat pump, too. For example, you can cut down any plants or tall grass near your heat pump to reduce the chances that it will get clogged by plant matter.

Extending the life of your air conditioning unit

Many of the steps that can be taken to extend the life of your heat pump can also be taken to extend your AC’s life. After all, heat pumps are basically AC units that work all year round – they operate on the same principles as AC, and in reverse when they’re heating your home.

As such, everything that applies to heat pump maintenance applies here. The only difference is that while your heat pump should get maintenance twice a year, once a year is usually sufficient for AC units.

Extending the life of your furnace

Proper maintenance is important for extending the life of your HVAC system. Our technicians will:

  • Clean and oil your furnace’s blower
  • Clean out dirt, soot, and other contaminants
  • Ensure the connections between the furnace and main ducts are properly sealed
  • Check for carbon monoxide
  • Inspect the electric terminals, cleaning, tightening, and coating them with non-conductive coating when necessary
  • Ensure the thermostat is working correctly, repairing it if needed
  • Check your filter, and replace it if needed

This maintenance will reduce wear and tear and extend your furnace’s lifespan. Our technicians can also spot potential problems before they begin to threaten the functionality of your furnace.

Those are just a few of the steps we can take to extend the lifespan of your HVAC units. We can also check your vents and other parts of your system for obstructions. Regular maintenance can reduce your energy costs and decrease the number of furnace repairs you might need. If you do ever need air conditioning repair in San Marcos , give us a call
